A Waunakee couple has begun a business ensuring individuals who have lost mobility can get the supports they need installed to live in their own homes.

Kayla and Josh Lalande launched Next Day Access South Central Wisconsin in January to offer free assessments of the supports that may be needed — ramps, stair lifts, elevators or grab bars, for example — to ensure the home can remain accessible.

Kayla spoke to the Waunakee Rotary Club at its March 19 meeting about the business, which is located in Windsor. She previously was a medical social worker who helped with discharge planning. Ideally, people will plan ahead for the time when they may need extra support, but often those needs are the result of a fall or hospital stay.

In those cases, Kayla and Josh found the wait to have a ramp or stairlift installed can be weeks. But patients are usually discharged from the hospital in a couple of days. Next Day Access South Central Wisconsin accommodates those short windows.

Kayla does home visits to assess what the needs are and provides a free quote, and Josh, who previously worked installing office furniture and cabinetry, does the installation.

The company also rents equipment for individuals who have temporary mobility issues. Kayla can help people find the best solutions to help people stay in their homes, and they work with companies who supply the equipment.
