The Waunakee Rotary Club met for club assembly July 25, as reports from each of the committees offered updates of the club’s projects.
Ken Pesik reported for community service. Shauna Hughey has stained the kiosk at the park, he said, and the club began setting up for WaunaFest on Wednesday. The committee is looking ahead to Wauktoberfest, which begins Thursday, Sept. 12. The Bourbon, Bacon and Cigar event is Sept. 4 at the Lone Girl rooftop.
Linda Olson reported for the international committee. Those members are waiting on approval of a district grant for the K-19 project. Also, they are expecting a group from Croatia on a Friendship Exchange, and may be looking for hosts the first week of October.
Janette Jordee is also planning to present about her trip to the Philippines and the training center project there later this month.
On Oct. 20, the Food for Kids event will pack meals to send.
Brisa, the club’s exchange student, returned to Mexico, and stayed a week with the Tasker family. President Phil Willems presented Jennifer Tasker with the Hero Award for the week, as Jennifer not only hosted her for her final week, but took her to Chicago the day before her flight, toured the city with her, then got her to the airport and at her gate so she could safely fly home.
Bob Arntz reminded the members that the club will host two exchange students this fall and will need host families for one, a student from Argentina.
Fellowship has a number of activities planned, including the Midnight Splash event from 6-9 p.m. Aug. 6, WaunaFest this weekend, National Night Out on Aug. 7, and finally Wauktoberfest Sept. 12-15. Another activity is planned at the Lamphouse rooftop this fall.
Also, as part of fellowship, help is needed with the Rotary in Lights brochure, Jennifer Tasker said. Talk to her if you can help.
Jim Elvekrog from the membership committee reported that Craig Bauer and Taylor Endres have resigned from the club. Craig is no longer working at Fortify Bank and Taylor’s work commitments caused him to step away.
The meetings and programs committee has speakers scheduled for the next few months. Let the committee members know if there’s a speaker you’d like us to invite.
