President's Message

Fellow Rotarians,

As we enter in to 2012 the Waunakee Rotary Club is as full of as many opportunities and as much potential as it ever was. But, as we begin the New Year we don’t want to forget our rich history either. Our history gives us much to be proud of and the strong foundation we have to build from.

In the last two months alone our club has participated in serving breakfast to seniors on Thanksgiving, singing Christmas carols at the Waunakee Manor and sending $2,500 to a school in Kenya. The most ambitious project over the holiday season is always the Holiday Lights at the Village Park. Although this project requires many man hours for both “set up” and “take down”, the participation is always good and countless visitors witness the display of lights every night for over a month. This project will generate over $16,000 for our club to distribute back into the community and international causes.

January is Rotary Awareness Month.  We want to make sure our members are aware of the reasons we should support our Rotary Foundation and all the things it does to improve the lives of people both near and far?  We want to make sure all members know that our club’s fund raising goals are also for the Annual Programs Fund. Some of our neighboring clubs have already raised over $50 per member. The November and December matching point promotions were very successful with close to $25,000 raised in our District.

We still have almost 6 months left to reach our goals.  Remember... 50% of what we give this year comes back directly to our District to support projects of our choosing.  Our Rotary Foundation is one of the most efficiently run charitable organizations in the world.  Charity Navigator gives the Rotary Foundation its highest rating of 4 stars.  All Rotarians should know that.

We have a lot to build on and a lot to look forward to. 2012 is going to be a great year.

Waunakee Rotary Club President,

John Cullen
