Local Chapter History, Part One
 The
Waunakee Rotary Club Charter was approved by Rotary International
on January 31, 1973.
The Charter presentation meeting was held
on Monday, February 26, 1973 at Lake Windsor Country Club;
Windsor, WI. The co-sponsors of the club were the Rotary Club
of Madison and the Rotary Club of Sun Prairie.
The first Waunakee Rotary Club officers
were:
- John L. Prince (President),
- James R. Schmitz (Vice_president),
- Robert J. Lenz (Secretary- Treasurer),
and
- James W. Curtis (Sergeant-at-arms).
The first directors of the club were:
- Frank L. Bucaida,
- Robert J. Lenz,
- John L. Prince,
- John F. Roob, and
- James R. Schmitz.
There were 23 charter members of the club-
those members were: Rev. B. Auchter, Daniel L. Bindl, Conrad
F. Blau, Frank L. Bucaida, Stan H. Carbaugh, James W. Curtis,
Ray S. Dorman, Ernest Fangmeyer, Rev. Roger A. Ganzel, Glen
Heyn, Robert P. Kueffer, Bernard Kuen, Robert J. Lenz, Robert
J. McGilligan, Richard J. Murphy, Robert Ortiz, Ted A. Pertzborn,
John L. Prince, Roman Ripp, James R. Schmitz, Marcel M. Schwab,
and Ray A. Statz- with Carlton E. Wilke being an additional
member, and James G. Marshall, George Neckerman, and William
E. Youngdahl being honorary members.
The Club has grown and prospered since
it was first chartered in January of 1973. The current membership,
as of December, 2011, is 92 members. Since its foundation in 1973,
the club has been active in, or sponsored, numerous community
projects and has collected approximately $500,000 dollars-
which has been donated to charities and organizations around
the world. A partial list of many of the projects, organizations
sponsored, and donations made by the Waunakee Rotary Club
may be found under the heading of "Club Goals and Accomplishments"
on this Web site.
